Phany / Teacher & Project Manager |
|
I am a Contemporary artist painting mostly figurative work, oil on canvas. I became a student of Colors of Cambodia in 2009 and later a Teacher and Manager in 2012 till now.
In my works I have the opportunity to talk about my (Khmer) culture and show how my past springboards into the goals of my future.
It is my hands, and your hands too,. For I have given you this insight into my works.
I paint what I recollect from my past, hands down from my family and others. I notice that the past causes some people to suffer, but we are living in the present and cannot change the past: we can try to understand it, and the power it has over us.

Honey / Teacher & Project Manager |

I was trained as a fine artist at the Malaysian Institute of Art in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I have twenty-plus years experience in teaching art to children in Malaysia, and since 2007 I have been involved with teaching art at Colors of Cambodia in Siem Reap.
Over time I have organised many exhibitions and events, and helped raise funds for Colors of Cambodia. I have also provided training for Colors of Cambodia teachers, helped obtain sponsorships for 170 local Khmer students, which has enabled them to go back to school and continue their education.
I believe that we should play our role and, no matter how small our contribution is, at least we have done something for those in need.

I began my journey with Colors of Cambodia in 2016 after hearing about the project through a friend and in 2020 began teaching classes part-time till now.
When I finish high school, I would like to volunteer at the public school to teach art. I want to support the children that do not have the same opportunities as mine due to growing up in poor areas. With this, I hope to bring happiness to the children. I am inspired by my surroundings and life in Cambodia. I enjoy painting and want to share my ability with the world. |

Lon Loun |
I am Loun lon but am known as Salone. I was born on the 1st of September, 2002. I come from a large family of 8 siblings and am currently studying at university. I started studying at Colors of Cambodia in 2014 after hearing about it from a friend at school. Although I am busy with school, I now teach art each Sunday morning at COC and at local school. This began in 2019.
At first, I found oil difficult to paint with and I didn’t like the smell. I didn’t know how to do it and thought it was too hard. I listened to my teacher explain what colors to start with and which brush to use. As I became more confident, I found oil paint is easier to mix to obtain my desired effect. I prefer to paint portraits so I can show feelings and emotions in my paintings. |

Son Kosal |
I am a new generation artist. I have been a student in Colors of Cambodia art school since 2017.
Dome of my work is displayed in both COC and The River Gallery.
I love art because it lifts my spirits whenever I have had a bad day or when I feel sad. Art makes me feel at peace with myself.
In my artwork, it is my intention is to remind the viewer to be clear when making decisions in their lives, using my imagery as a catalyst.
We know that decisions lead us onto new paths, provoking fresh insights derived from interactions. |

Seang Layhak |
I was born in 2nd July 2003. I have been studying at Colors of Cambodia art school since 2016. I was a student of teacher Phany at the local school. When teacher left the school, she invited me to continue to study with her at COC.
When I first attended art classes at COC, I could see how well the other students were doing. This inspired me to want to continue with my painting and lessons.
Art makes me happy, I always knew I wanted to learn art and attend classes. As soon as I leant that there was a school that was free to learn I went to the school straight away. I do loves to paint with watercolor and like to especially paint Bayon temple. |

Lem Soleang |
I am a young Cambodia artist, and I believe that nothing in our lives is certain, as we cannot see into our futures.
I am one of 8 children. Unfortunately, my Parents passed away since I was 3-year-old, my sister now takes care of the family.
I have been attending Colors of Cambodia since 2014. My favorite medium is watercolors. When using watercolors, I can reflect my feelings with the flow of the paint. I also like to use a lot of color in My painting.
People have dreams and goals, but having a dream is not easy. There is always some element of risk, of failure. Alternatively, failure encourages greater creativity, and brigs hope.
It is said that “yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift”. |
